Easter in Ireland – Customs & Traditions

Posted on: 25 August, 2011 - Category: Ireland Hotel by:

Like many countries, nowadays Easter in Ireland is celebrated with easter holidays, easter eggs and easter bunnies. Easter Sunday is a time for family and friends to get together, attend mass and have a roast dinner. Like most Catholic countries for 40 days before Easter Sunday we have a period called ‘Lent’ where some people abstain from something they like. On Good Friday, pubs are closed as a mark of respect, but when Easter Sunday comes round, people celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ by attending mass, Lent is over and everyone can head out that night to enjoy themselves as the following day is a Bank Holiday Monday! The Easter bank holiday weekend is a big weekend in the social calender with lots of events taking place all over the country.

Doolin Hotels – Three Accommodation Gems in the Irish Countryside

County Clare in the south west of Ireland is one of the last remaining unspoilt counties in Ireland with scenery, accommodation, entertainment and culinary delights in abundance.

Irish and international visitors have over the past few decades gravitated toward the more populated and tourist-targeted counties neighboring Clare to visit the Ring of Kerry, Killarney and Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone.

Visiting Ireland For The First Time – Some Impartial Advice

Ireland’s greatest resource is its people and, like any visit to another country, it pays to discover a little about them before you leave. You will find them courteous, gentle, excellent conversationalists, helpful and engaging. Providing you have time and the patience to listen, you will learn a lot. While the official language of the Republic of Ireland is Irish (Gaelic) and learned by everyone at school, the most common language is English and you will have to travel to the more remote regions to hear native speakers. By European standards the speech rate is quite fast, but don’t be afraid to politely ask someone to repeat himself or herself more slowly. There are many other commonalities with the majority of visitors such as currency (the Euro), culture and customs (although there is a rich and interesting tradition, influenced by religious rituals). Travel is relatively easy; there is a good network of public transport between and within the major cities. If you intend to visit the more remote areas, then a car is useful although not essential.

Memoirs From Dublin Weekends

Posted on: 20 August, 2011 - Category: Ireland Hotel by:

It was during my college days at UCC (aka University College Cork, Ireland) when I, along with my fellow pal who stayed with me, decided to have a short excursion.

So, it was decided that we will be spending our approaching weekend at Dublin, which is only 250km away from Cork and the train service takes 2-3 hours.

We took the 06:00 hrs train on that approaching Saturday morning and we reached Dublin Heuston by 9:15 hrs.

Dublin Heuston, popularly known by Heuston Station is Dublin’s one of the major railway station and is situated at St.John’s Road. Dublin (Baile tha Cliath in Irish), the capital of Ireland, is the probably the largest city in Ireland.
