A Town Guide to Ballybunion in Ireland

Posted on: 16 August, 2011 - Category: Ireland Hotel by:

Ballybunion is a charming seaside resort town in the south west of Ireland which has been drawing in tourists to its sandy beaches and to its golf clubs for many decades.

Part of the appeal of this small town is that it is one of the few villages in the area that has not fully succumbed to being a tourist trap and therefore thankfully retained a good deal of its old country charm. As a result, it tends to have a more laid-back atmosphere and is a favorite for the Irish people from nearby cities seeking a secluded weekend break or day trip.

In Ireland, a Bachelorette party is known as a Hen Party. This event usually takes place a few weeks before the wedding. The party is normally organized by the chief bridesmaid or maid of honour. While the format varies widely the event usually involves alcohol. Many Hen parties include some daytime event or activity like paint-balling, makeovers, bowling or other fun pursuits. There is nearly always a meal in a restaurant followed by a night of drinking and dancing.

There is just so much to see at this university. Walk around ‘The Quad’, which lies at the heart of the campus. You won’t see any students walking through the middle of the quad however, for fear of ‘failing exams’ if they do. This superstition has been around for years and the only day you’ll see students walk through the quad is on graduation day!

Explore the stone corridors of the Aula Maxima and the West Wing, which surround the quad. Here in these cloisters you’ll discover a collection of Ogham Stones (4th – 8th century), which once stood in fields in the south west of Ireland. These stones bear an ancient Celtic/Irish form of writing with many notches and lines called Ogham.

What with cellphones and laptops, European leaders can control business from anywhere, including, presumably, poolside. The mantra of a month for European spokespeople is “constant contact,’’ as in “my trainer is in consistent hit with other European leaders,’’ even yet photos have seemed of him roving a bike or climbing a mountain.

TWO news equipment over a final few weeks have held my eye. The initial was critique of Darren Clarke’s over-enthusiastic jubilee of his Open Championship win and his consequent vast intake of alcohol. The other was author Sebastian Barry’s critique of Barack Obama holding a pint of Guinness in Moneygall. “I would rather he had done a speech,” he is reported to have said.

Awesome Places to Visit in Ireland

Posted on: 10 August, 2011 - Category: Ireland Hotel by:

Ireland is a great family vacation spot. With many areas from which to choose for staying in while you are visiting, some people opt to rent one of the area’s farmhouses. Many choose Dublin though since this is the capital. This is often a destination for honeymoons. The cities of Cork, Belfast and Emerald Isle are also popular spots. There are many self-catering rentals available which are sometimes preferred over the typical hotel stay.
